El Colegio de México
In the fall of 2009, the Katz Center for Mexican Studies and the Center for Latin American Studies announced the establishment of a Visiting Professorship and Student Exchange Program between the University of Chicago and El Colegio de México, Mexico’s premier research university in social sciences.
This partnership with the Colegio, which has a long tradition of educating some of Mexico’s most prominent academics, policy makers and diplomats, furthers the Katz Center’s goal of producing top research and promoting and disseminating bi-national dialogue on Mexican history, politics, and culture.
For one quarter each year, the Katz Center hosts a senior faculty member from El Colegio de México to teach one cross-listed undergraduate/graduate course, as well as one advanced graduate student from the Colegio. Both have full access to the University of Chicago’s academic resources, library use and borrowing privileges and the opportunity to participate in graduate workshops. As a conduit for intellectual exchange and lively discussion on all matters related to Mexico, the Katz Center for Mexican Studies has developed program offerings of wide appeal in the form of academic conferences, lectures and co-sponsorship of relevant events with other entities both on and off campus.
